Dragon Quest XI localisation releases in September, coming to both PC and PS4

Japanese developers have been giving a lot of love to the PC platform lately, with games like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter making their way over despite largely catering to a console audience. Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the latest to get this treatment as the title finally arrives in the West on September 4th, alongside its expected PlayStation 4 launch.

Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age originally launched in Japan last year for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo’s 3DS. The 3DS has been nixed from the localised ports, and a Nintendo Switch version is currently in the works with no current release window announced as of yet.

Square Enix surprised everyone when it announced that it would be bringing the eleventh mainline entry in its beloved series to PC, which will contain the same additional features as the localised PS4 version, such as a dash function, extra difficulty settings and a camera mode. Its transition to PC does make sense, however, as the publisher has previously ported its Dragon Quest Heroes spin-off line to Steam a year after each title originally released in Japan.

“The game follows the perilous journey of a hunted Hero who must uncover the mystery of his fate with the aid of a charismatic cast of supporting characters,” publisher Square Enix describes in a statement.

“With a quest that takes players across continents and over vast oceans as they learn of an ominous threat facing the world, Dragon Quest 11 brings a massive, beautifully detailed world to life, with finely tuned turn-based combat and an immersive story that will appeal to fans and newcomers alike.”

KitGuru Says: It’s good to see more attention coming to the platform while Japanese developers still eschew working on a release for US competitor Xbox. At least this way, audiences outside of PlayStation and Nintendo get to experience most of what the talented country has to offer. Are you happy to see Dragon Quest XI make its way over to PC?
