CD Projekt Red picks up indie studio to support Cyberpunk 2077 development

The geniuses behind The Witcher have acquired indie studio Strange New Things, dedicating it to the development of Cyberpunk 2077. Now dubbed CD Projekt Red Wrocław, the new team is comprised of former members of core CD Projekt Red as well as IO Interactive and Techland.

Strange New Things was formed by ex Techland COO Pawel Zawodny, assembling a team based on former employees of experienced studios. Initially, the developer implemented a “Project” section on its website, with Zawodny stating the team intended to create “something that comes from ‘us'.”

This never came to fruition before the acquisition, but there’s no point in moping over what might have been lost when the immense talents are now being directed at one of the most hotly anticipated titles currently in the works.

“Aside from their immense technological knowledge and artistic flair, the core team of CD Projekt Red Wrocław are just great people,” explains head of CD Projekt Red Adam Badowski. “CD Projekt Red is not a typical game developer—we put gamers, creative freedom and quality games above making business. These guys not only share this approach, but, much like the rest of the team, think that this attitude is essential to creating epic videogames.”

Zadowny assures fans that the team behind Wrocław is “strong” and certainly has “both the experience and the creative firepower to make Cyberpunk 2077 an even better game.” Right now, CD Projekt Red Wrocław is hiring for those that live in Poland near the area or would be willing to move.
