Although video game purists refute mobile gaming, viewing it as something lesser than the more powerful console and PC platforms, it’s undeniable that handheld titles are some of the biggest money makers out there. Fortnite’s iOS version has been out for less than a month, and has already earned a cool $15 million despite still being in beta.
The first week of Fortnite’s iOS launch saw the title as an invite-only test period, which in itself raked in $1.5 million. Opening this up to the general public has helped the title garner a total of 11 million downloads so far, pushing microtransaction sales as high as 197 percent, according to analytics group Sensor Tower.
Come April 2nd, just over two weeks after launch, the title was making approximately $1.8 million per day, up from its daily income of $620,000 prior. Considering the game has yet to hit Android devices, it becomes clearer to see why its competitor, PUBG Corp is claiming damages from mobile clones of the battle royale game.
Fortnite: Battle Royale has been doing so well on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One that it wasn’t entirely a surprise that its mobile variant would be just as popular. “This growth isn’t unexpected given the sudden increase in active players, but, as the chart shows, daily revenue was already increasing substantially prior to the influx,” explains Sensor Tower.
This places Fortnite’s iOS version in the top 10, competing with well-known superhits such as Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans. Sensor Tower expects that this revenue will continue to climb, particularly when the Google Play Store version launches, which is expected “in the next few months.”

KitGuru Says: While these numbers are staggering, this is something that virtually anyone could have predicted. It looks like battle royale games are here to stay on the mobile platform, with their success presumably prompting many more console-like-ports headed to iOS and Android in the near future.
