Former Free Radical employee reveals TimeSplitters Next gameplay

At the end of 2023, Embracer Group made the decision to close down Free Radical Design, the studio responsible for TimeSplitters, just two years after reviving the studio. At the time, we heard a bit about the studio's TimeSplitters revival plans, and now, a leaked video gives us a look at the game in action.

A former Free Radical employee has shared a five minute video of some of the work that went into the project. The post, which was shared directly to this employee's LinkedIn page, presumably to give future employers a look at their work on the cancelled game. The project, referred to as TimeSplitters Next, is no longer viewable via the LinkedIn page but I was able to find a YouTube mirror of the video, which you can find HERE.

Earlier reports indicated that Free Radical Design had initially been instructed to turn TimeSplitters into a Fortnite style battle royale game. However, the project was later rebooted. In the footage shown of TimeSplitters Next, the Fortnite inspiration is very clear, from movement and shooting to art-style similarities.

It has been claimed that many on the TimeSplitters team were unhappy with the direction of the game and the project was rebooted in 2023, months prior to the studio's shutdown in December.

KitGuru Says: Free Radical Design is no more and Embracer still owns the TimeSplitters IP, so we'll have to wait and see what the future holds. I doubt this iteration of the game is passed on though.
