Intel Lunar Lake Xe2-LPG iGPU benchmark gives impressive first look

Intel's upcoming Lunar Lake CPU design is set to revolutionise the low-power mobile market. This new processor will be the first to feature the company's highly anticipated Battlemage graphics technology. Though little information is available regarding the revised architecture, early benchmark results indicate that this processor could be a force to be reckoned with.

Lunar Lake is the second generation of Intel's tile-based processors and will consist of four tiles, one each for compute, graphics, system agent, and I/O. What sets this processor apart is the graphics tile, which will be based on the Battlemage (Xe2-LPG) GPU architecture. This architecture succeeds Alchemist, and enthusiasts are hopeful that it will address the flaws of its predecessor and offer improved performance.

The newly spotted benchmark result in the SiSoft Sandra database shared by @miktdt (via VideoCardz) suggests that this hope may be well-founded. The benchmark's standard GPGPU test produced an aggregated result of 2,108.15 Mpix/s, which is quite impressive for what seems to be a low-power processor. With a clock speed of 1.85GHz and power consumption of under 17W, the Lunar Lake GPU outperformed the Radeon 780M in a Ryzen Z1 Extreme and the GPU in Meteor Lake CPUs.

Of course, this is just one benchmark test, and it's important to note that there's no indication of how well the Battlemage architecture would perform under gaming workloads. Still, if further Lunar Lake results show a similar increase in performance over Alchemist, Battlemage could bring some competition to AMD's integrated graphics solutions.
