There is a new Halo game coming out this year- but it’s only for arcades

Fans of Microsoft’s Halo series have been waiting for news of a sequel since the release of 343 Industries’ Halo 5 in 2015. While it’s not quite the iteration many had hoped for, Microsoft has revealed a new game in the series titled Halo: Fireteam Raven, built for arcades.

343 Industries is teaming up with Raw Thrills and PlayMechanix to bring the renowned franchise to arcades in the form of a giant coin-operated first-person on-rails machine, similar to that of Time Crisis and Vampire Night.

Up to four players can band together for the cinematic experience, fighting Covenant enemies, ships and vehicles on a 130-inch 4K display, wielding turret mounted machine guns. Iconic weapons such as the Needler and vehicles such as the Warthog will make an appearance.

The journey of Halo: Fireteam Raven takes place alongside that of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, in which a team of four Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST), known as the self-titled Fireteam Raven, are deployed against the Covenant forces.

Players can connect their arcade gameplay to the online Halo Waypoint service through a provided QR code at some point before or after embarking on the adventure.

KitGuru Says: This reminds me a lot of the disappointment that the announcement of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 3 Pachinko machine brought to me, so I can sympathise with those hoping for more from the developer. Unlike the MGS series, however, Halo 6 is still certainly on the cards albeit unofficially announced. What would you like to see from a true successor to the numbered titles?
