Monster Hunter is getting a $60 million movie adaptation

The launch of Monster Hunter World earlier this year finally gave the franchise a solid position in the west. The game attracted millions of new players and has already become one of Capcom's fastest selling games ever. So what's the next step? Well like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter will be getting its own movie adaptation.

We've known for a while that a Monster Hunter movie has been in development. Now, everything seems to be falling in place, with Variety reporting that the film has been greenlit with a $60 million budget. Production is set to begin in September, so we could see the movie release next year.

Filming will be taking place at Cape Town in South Africa. Special effects will be supplied by Mr. X, the same group that worked on the Resident Evil series of films. On top of that, Milla Jovovich will be starring, just as she did in the Resident Evil series.

That's all the information we have for now, but we should learn more as work on production gets underway.

KitGuru Says: While the Resident Evil movies weren't exactly massive critical successes, the franchise as a whole did end up making $1 billion. It will be interesting to see how Monster Hunter stacks up in comparison.
