Computex 2018: ASUS unveils a trio of new monitors aimed at gamers and professionals

Ahead of its Computex showcase, ASUS has unveiled a trio of new monitors designed to tackle the gaming and professional markets. Introducing the CG32 4K console gaming monitor, VG49V “super-ultra-wide” gaming monitor and ProArt PA34V ultra-wide professional monitor.

ASUS CG32UQ 4K

The 31.5-inch CG32 UHD monitor is ASUS’ answer to console makers constantly pushing higher resolution with the PlayStation Pro and Xbox One X, bringing with it technology that was previously geared towards PC gamers.

This includes a VA panel with HDR10 support, VESA DisplayHDR 600 compliance, 10-bit colour support, 95% of the cinema-grade DCI-P3 gamut and zone-based dimming that “enables vast dynamic range from deep blacks to bright whites that push up to 600 cd/m² of localized luminance.”

For the competitive gamer, the ASUS CG32 sports Adaptive Sync with variable refresh technology across its Ultra-HD 4K resolution. This varies from 40-60Hz to naturally flow with normal in-game performance fluctuations and works across all inputs from its DisplayPort 1.2, to the three HDMI 2.0 ports, enabling the technology to work with all types of modern console.

ASUS VG49V Super-Ultra-Wide

The ASUS VG49V is geared towards the PC user, offering a unique 1800R curved super-ultra-wide 32:9 aspect ratio across a 49-inch VA panel. Dubbed Double Full HD (DFHD) its resolution is twice the size of a standard HD monitor, coming in at 3840 x 1080.

Built with the gamer in mind, ASUS pushes the maximum refresh rate to 144Hz, making it a compelling competitive display. Using FreeSync technology, the VG49V varies its refresh rate between 48-144Hz with compatible graphics cards to keep in line with the variable performance of each title.

This is paired with 4ms pixel response time to quell ghosting, blurring and smearing that can be reduced to 1ms through its Extreme Low Motion Blut (ELMB) feature. This comes at the sacrifice of refresh rate, as ELMB works at 85, 100 or 120Hz.

Of course, the screen real-estate is perfect for the professional, making multitasking much easier with its Picture-by-Picture mode. This lets the user view two separate sources simultaneously from its DisplayPort 1.2 and two HDMI 2.0 connections.

ASUS ProArt PA34V

Lastly, the ASUS ProArt PA34V is designed for creative professionals like video editors and photographers with a distinct focus on colour reproduction with its IPS panel. ASUS calibrates each monitor before it ships, guaranteeing a delta E color difference of less than two. Users can calibrate more if they choose, with ProArt Calibration Technology enabling owners to save profiles directly to the monitor before they begin.

The 34-inch 1900R curved ultra-wide sports a 3440 x 1440 resolution with a 21:9 aspect ratio, while still remaining a viable option for gamers thanks to its 100Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync, which varies between 40-100Hz to keep consistent with performance dips.

Connectivity is a core feature of the ASUS ProArt PA34V with its DisplayPort 1.2 and two HDMI 2.0 ports, alongside two Thunderbolt 3 inputs and a USB Type-C connector, improving workflow with a peak bandwidth of up to 40Gbps for external storage devices.

Pricing for each monitor has yet to be revealed, but each of the three is expected to arrive at some point later in the year. Each display will be showcased at ASUS’ booth during Computex from June 5-9th.
