No Man’s Sky is finally set to introduce full multiplayer in July

No Man’s Sky’s Sean Murray made a lot of promises in the run up to its release in 2016, and it looks as though developer Hello Games is still working towards making some of them a reality. The next big update for the space explorer will introduce a proper multiplayer mode, launching on July 24th.

Murray broke the news during Microsoft's latest Inside Xbox livestream, stating that the new multiplayer will improve on the current system by allowing for more player interaction. This includes grouping up to build, survive, race and simply explore the expansive universe that No Man’s Sky has to offer. In the brief overview that Murray gave, he did suggest that players can prey on other players, hinting that there will also be some form of player-versus-player.

Titled the “Next” update, the impending patch will be one of the biggest yet for the title, with Murray proudly ensuring that this is the accumulation of “potential that everyone’s always seen in No Man’s Sky. It’s the kind of game that myself and a lot of other people have always wanted to play in a multiplayer world.”

The new fully fledged multiplayer elements have been in testing for six months, supposedly giving the game “a really different” feel that’s more akin to other space adventures than the solitary experience it’s been for the past year and a half.

The long awaited feature will be available across Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC when the Next update lands on July 24th.

KitGuru Says: No Man’s Sky does look like a game that would benefit greatly from player interaction. It’s just a shame that it has taken so long to implement it. Will you be hopping into No Man’s Sky to play alongside some friends or is it too little, too late?
