Epic Games introduces ‘vehicles’ into Fortnite: Battle Royale

Despite being a core part of rival, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, vehicles have been noticeably missing from Fortnite: Battle Royale since the title launch last September. Epic Games has now rectified this, introducing the game’s first mode of transport: A shopping cart.

Also known as a trolley here in Britain, Epic’s entertaining new addition to Fortnite allows players to act like an unsupervised kid in a supermarket, pushing the shopping carts to gain momentum and hopping on them to ride it out.

Naturally, this is much more suited to duos as one player can act as point man, taking aim at enemy players, while the other pushes and steers the cart. Of course, this is all subject to the game’s physics, meaning that momentum is lost uphill and gained downhill, so try not to let go of the cart at the wrong time.

I know what you’re thinking, you just have to test how much air the shopping cart can get with a ramp made using Fortnite’s unique crafting system, but the small metal cage won’t protect players from fall damage.

Alongside the shopping cart, Patch 4.3 introduces a new consumable mushroom that grants 5 shield when eaten, and brings back two limited time game modes. Blitz V2 ushers in the same quick-paced gameplay with faster storms and more loot, while Teams of 20 is back pitting five teams of 20 players against one another.

KitGuru Says: I do admire how Epic Games doesn’t take Fortnite too seriously. For those hopping into Fortnite: Battle Royale in the near future, please remember, don’t drink and cart surf.
