Ahead of its unveiling later this week, HTC’s brand new smartphone has been leaked. Alongside giving us a better look at the distinctly notch-less design, the images confirm many of the leaked specifications and hint at what to expect in the way of pricing.
Unfortunately for HTC, the images were spotted by Roland Quandt via a test subdomain on the official website. Instead of a low to mid-range model, it looks increasingly like HTC has opted for a high-end competitor to take on the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Apple’s iPhone X.
Tentatively titled the HTC U12, it looks as though the handset’s 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage will come in at a price of 5,888 yuan, equating to approximately $920. With a further leak appearing on the company’s European Online Store, the 64GB storage edition is expected to cost £699 in the UK.

The display is one of the more interesting portions of the U12, not only forgoing the divisive notch, but also opting against an OLED screen. Instead, the U12 will house a 6-inch WQHD+ (1440 x 2880) Super LCD6, surrounded by Boomsound speakers and powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip. It features expandable storage with a microSD card slot (up to 2TB) and a 3,500mAh battery.
Given the high-end nature of the handset, the U12 is also feature IP68-rated water and dust resistance, a feature that wasn’t seen in the price-to-performance OnePlus 6 that debuted just last week.
The website has since been taken down, with more information coming during HTC’s launch event on Wednesday.
KitGuru Says: It’s interesting that HTC would go against the grain with a more traditional design rather than falling in line like other manufacturers. At the very least, this gives customers more options, particularly those that struggle to accept the notch. Would you prefer the box-like design that HTC has in store or are you on board with the increasingly popular notch?
