Computex 2018: be quiet! case revisions, Threadripper 2nd Gen Dark Rock Pro and more

This year at Computex, be quiet! has a sizeable spread of new launches to talk about. The Dark Base and Silent Base cases are getting new and improved revisions, Threadripper buyers have a new Dark Rock Pro 4 to look forward to and silent PC enthusiasts will want to be on the look out for the new Shadow Wings 2 fans.

On the case front we'll start off with the Dark Base Pro 900 Rev 2. This case is immediately familiar thanks to the layout being similar to the Dark Base 700. There's a tempered glass side panel held on by four thumb screws, you get full covers for the cable management holes and modularity is back in full force. The motherboard tray can be taken out and adjusted for height, or inverted completely.

We also have two new Silent Base cases on the way. The Silent Base 601 is almost ready and will be heading into production soon for a Q3 launch. Upgrades over the Silent Base 600 include thicker noise dampening foam, a better PWM hub and some new HDD cut outs that double as cable management holes when not in use. We are expecting the Silent Base 601 to launch with a price tag of 120 Euros for the steel side panel version, and 130 Euros for the Tempered Glass version.

The Silent Base 801 is a little further off, with be quiet! targeting a Q4 launch. This one will provide more space for cooling, and can support up to five HDDs and up to 11 SSDs. While be quiet! will offer different coloured highlights for its cases, the company appears to be staying well away from RGB for the time being. In fact, be quiet! is one of just a few case makers that isn't going ‘all in' on RGB at Computex this year, which will be a refreshing change of pace for some.

Yesterday AMD announced that 2nd Gen Threadripper processors would be on the way in Q3 this year, with versions going all the way up to 32C/64T. Any chip that size is going to need to be paired with a decent cooler, and for those who prefer air, be quiet! has you covered with the Dark Rock Pro TR4. It's similar to the Dark Rock Pro 4, with the same dual-tower heatsink design and Silent Wings fans. However, the base is obviously larger to accommodate for Threadripper's size and provide even heat dissipation.

If you are a fan of making your PC as quiet as possible, then be quiet! has some new fans for you. Currently, be quiet!'s Silent Wing series is the flagship, offering the best ‘all around' performance. However, the Shadow Wings series are slightly quieter. The new Shadow Wings 2 series comes with airflow-optimised fan blades and a higher-grade fan bearing for longevity. We're expecting these to land in Q4 2018.

Finally, be quiet! is also adding individually sleeved cables to its accessory lineup. However, you will need one of the company's newer Pure Power 9 or Straight Power 10 series units to make use of them.
