Naturally, Bethesda’s most logical release is Skyrim for Amazon’s Alexa

Bethesda ended its E3 presentation by announcing the long-awaited Elder Scrolls VI. While many rejoiced at the title finally becoming a reality, countless more breathed a sigh of relief that this would likely be the end of Skyrim’s limitless re-releases. Unfortunately for that crowd, Bethesda has transcended the meme, announcing Skyrim: Very Special Edition for a platform no one asked for, Amazon’s Alexa.

Since Skyrim launched in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, it has been re-released as the Legendary Edition including all content in 2013, as the Special Edition remaster for Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2016, for the Nintendo Switch in 2017 and for virtual reality this year. Needless to say, this has spawned plenty of memes poking fun at Bethesda’s priorities, prompting the idea of TES V Skyrim: Toaster Edition.

While the Toaster Edition doesn’t seem to have made the cut, Bethesda’s very self-aware advertisement starring comedian Keegan-Michael Key did showcase Skyrim running on Amazon’s Alexa. Initially believed to be a joke, Amazon surprised everyone by launching a product page for the game.

Available now, free for any Alexa-powered device, Skyrim: Very Special Edition plays similar to that of old RPGs, swapping out pen & paper for voice commands. While you’re unlikely to rack up hundreds of hours into the new edition, this will have to tide fans over until the Elder Scrolls VI arrives after the similarly vague Starfield, or Bethesda does release Skyrim on Etch A Sketch, Motorola Pagers or Samsung Smart Refrigerators.

KitGuru Says: Bethesda isn’t shy about acknowledging common rumblings on the internet, the publisher comically trying to #SavePlayer1 single player titles at The Game Awards 2017. Would you play Skyrim on Alexa? Can you think of any other devices you’d like to see the title make its way to?
