After a lengthy open beta that ran from late 2022 to mid 2023, WB made the surprising announcement that Multiversus would be pulled offline for a period of time to undergo additional development. Now, the game is finally set to return almost a year later.
Multiversus will finally return on the 28th of May for all platforms. The free-to-play game, inspired by other platform fighters like Smash Bros and Brawlhalla, features characters from across WB's roster of IP, from Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time, Tom & Jerry and Scooby Doo, to films like Gremlins and The Iron Giant, to DC characters like Batman and Superman.

While we were all curious as to why the game needed so much extra development after the beta, it would seem that the team behind the game has been well and truly busy. The game has transitioned over to Unreal Engine 5, the developers have implemented rollback netcode, a highly requested feature in the fighting game community, as well as new characters.
The original Multiversus roster was pretty extensive, with around 20 characters revealed during the early access period. For the full game, WB will have more characters joining, as well as new attacks and combat mechanics for each character to make each one feel more unique. If you need to practise a bit before taking on multiplayer matches, then a PvE mode will also be available, offering players with “unique rewards”.
KitGuru Says: Multiversus seems to have undergone a lot of changes since we last had the chance to play it. Hopefully these changes will all be for the better, as the game looks to recapture the hype and excitement it initially had in late 2022.
