The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite is set to revolutionise the ultraportable notebook category by powering a new generation of Arm-powered Windows 11 devices. Designed to rival the Apple M3 processor, the Snapdragon X Elite SoC can also compete against Intel's and AMD's 15–30W x64 CPUs and, in some cases, outperform considerably.
Erdi Özüağ (via TechPowerUp) recently tested a Qualcomm reference laptop powered by the Snapdragon X Elite X1E80100 28W SoC. In his review, he compared its performance to a retail notebook equipped with a 28W Intel Core Ultra 7 155H “Meteor Lake” CPU.
The Youtuber compared the two processors' CPU, iGPU, and NPU. In the Microsoft Visual Studio code compile test (CPU), the Snapdragon X Elite with its 12-core Oryon CPU completed the test in 37 seconds, compared to 54 seconds for the Core Ultra 7 155H with its 6P+8E+2LP processor. As for the Adreno 750 iGPU in the Snapdragon Soc, it performed identically to the 155H's Arc Graphics Xe-LPG in the 3DMark test (GPU).
Where the Snapdragon X Elite beats the Intel CPU by the biggest margin is in AI inference (NPU). While the Snapdragon X Elite scored 1720 points in the UL Procyon test, the Core Ultra chip scored 476. However, note that the Intel laptop was running OpenVINO, while the Snapdragon used the Qualcomm SNPE SDK for the test.
