Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu/Eevee will require Nintendo online subscription

Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu/Eevee is looking to be quite a unique Pokémon adventure, thanks to Pokémon Go compatibility and various gameplay changes. It looks like these games will also be used to help push Nintendo's upcoming Switch Online subscription service too, with trading and online battling locked behind the service.

The Pokémon Company confirmed this move in a statement sent over to GameSpot. The studio confirmed that Pokémon Let's Go will allow you to battle and trade with other players over the internet, but for the first time, Nintendo console owners will need to pay for access to those features. However, local battles and trades will still be available in the game.

While local battles and trading will remain a few online features that appeared on the 3DS will not be in Pokémon Let's Go. This includes modes like Wonder Trade, BattleSpot and GTS.

Nintendo’s paid online service is set to launch in September with some relatively affordable pricing tiers. £3.49 for one month or £18 for a whole year. In addition, there is a family plan that allows you to spread the cost between eight different accounts for £31.49 a year.

KitGuru Says: Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee is sure to be hugely popular, so I don’t see this online subscription requirement making any sort of dent in the sales of the title. What do you think the online fees will mean for the game?
