Dead Island 2 is still on the way, but there is nothing to show yet

At this point, it would be easy to forget that Dead Island 2 was ever announced. At one point, the game was being developed by the folks at Yager with a release date planned for 2015, but publisher Deep Silver pulled the plug, reassigning the project to a new studio. We've heard very little about the game since then, but apparently it is still happening.

As far as we know, Sumo Digital is still at the helm, the same studio currently behind Crackdown 3 for Microsoft and Team Sonic Racing for Sega. Earlier this week, a Dead Island mobile spin-off game was released, which led to questions on Twitter surrounding Dead Island 2 and its current status.

The official Dead Island 2 Twitter account replied with the following: “What's going on is that it's in development and we won't be showing more until we're ready. Appreciate the wait is painful, but Dead Island 2 is still coming.”

Back when Yager was working on Dead Island 2, the series seemed to be taking a more colorful, fun route. However, developers originally working on the game have since confessed that their vision clashed with Deep Silver's, which led to the project being scrapped and rebooted at Sumo Digital.

KitGuru Says: At this point, we might see next-gen consoles before we see Dead Island 2. The game's various development issues have certainly taken their toll. Were any of you looking forward to Dead Island 2 back when it was first announced?
