Valve has hired the writer behind Farpoint and The Invisible Hours

Valve has been making some moves on the development side lately. Aside from acquiring Campo Santo, the team behind Firewatch, Valve has also recently hired some new writers. Most notably, Valve brought Rob Yescombe on board, who penned the story behind The Invisible Hours last year.

The Invisible Hours is one of the highest rated story-driven VR experiences to date. We know that Valve is working on three full virtual reality games (see, they can count to 3), and while Valve did lose some notable writers over the last couple of years, the company has been bringing fresh voices into the fold. Yescombe announced that he has been working quietly at Valve since last year, and will be officially moving in to the Seattle HQ in the next few weeks.

Aside from writing for The Invisible Hours, Yescombe also worked on Farpoint, which was a major exclusive for PSVR. We don't know exactly what the writer is now working on with Valve, but given his past experience, I think it is safe to assume that it is one of the big upcoming VR games.

Valve also recently released what appears to be a finalised design for its new Knuckles VR controllers, alongside a Portal-themed tech demo to show off the various hardware features. With all of the Portal love being shown in Valve's VR tech demos, it would be hard to imagine Valve not working on a full new Portal game to really push virtual reality.

KitGuru Says: Valve hasn't released a new game for a long time, so anything that points towards something new coming tends to be fairly exciting. The Invisible Hours was a great game, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Yescombe can bring to the table for future Valve titles.
