First images of rumoured GTX 1180 show some interesting changes

There have been rumours surrounding Nvidia's next GeForce graphics card launch circulating all year. At this point, we know that Nvidia does have an event scheduled for later this month. While we don't have confirmation that we'll definitely see the GTX 1180 there, the PCB of an upcoming Nvidia graphics card has leaked online this week.

A user of the forum Baidu recently posted two images of a new Nvidia GPU PCB. The photos indicate that this new card will support either 8GB or 16GB GDDR6 memory, and will have a 10-phase VRM powered through 6+8 pin power connectors.

Another thing worthy of note is that the SLI fingers are completely different. Videocardz speculates that this could be a sign of Nvidia implementing NVLink for gaming GPUs. As you can see from the images, the cut out for the GPU is quite small, indicating that we're looking at a GV104 core.

The certification logos and Nvidia branding indicate that this is a final PCB version for Nvidia's own reference design, rather than a custom partner card.

Nvidia is holding an event on the 20th of August in Germany, just ahead of Gamescom. It is believed that this ‘GeForce Gaming Celebration' will double as a launch platform for the GTX 1180 and this latest leak seems to support that theory.

KitGuru Says: Leaks like this tend to creep up within the first few weeks leading up to a big launch. It will be interesting to see what else pops up between now and the 20th, when Nvidia finally reveals what it has up its sleeve.
