DOOM Eternal will have single-player DLC, Switch version planned for launch

On Friday evening during Quakecon 2018, Bethesda gave us a fantastic showing of DOOM Eternal gameplay. In all, around 20 minutes of new gameplay footage was shown, giving us a look at new mechanics, weapons, abilities and areas to explore. As Quakecon continued, more information about the game came to light, including details on a version for the Nintendo Switch, and plans for single-player DLC.

As awesome as DOOM 2016 was, some fans were disappointed that all DLC focussed on new multiplayer content, rather than adding to the fantastic single-player campaign. That will change with Eternal, as game director, Marty Stratton, confirmed to Polygon that there will “absolutely” be single-player DLC this time around, with id Software “already planning” it.

Aside from that, we now know that DOOM Eternal will be launching on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. The intention right now is to have all platforms launch at the same time, although the Switch version will be handled by Panic Button with a 30 frames per second target. Xbox One and PS4 will hit 60 frames per second once again, while PCs will be able to take full advantage of the new id Tech 7 engine with an unlocked frame rate.

An exact release date for DOOM Eternal is currently nowhere to be found. However, we are expecting it to release at some point in 2019, perhaps around the holiday season.

KitGuru Says: Since watching the DOOM Eternal gameplay reveal on Friday night, I've been replaying the first game quite a bit. Additional single-player content will be a big bonus this time around and it looks like Switch owners may get to jump in at the same time as everyone else. In all, everything around Eternal seems to be shaping up nicely. Are many of you excited for DOOM Eternal? Did you catch the gameplay reveal over the weekend?
