Ninja Theory doubles its donation to charity after achieving 100,000 Hellblade sales on Xbox

Ninja Theory is no stranger to charity, beginning its efforts by partnering with UK mental health charity Rethink last October. This continued in April 2018, with the developer announced it would donate proceeds from Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice to Mental Health America, coinciding with sales milestones of its Xbox One release. Now, the game has achieved 100,000 sales on the platform, resulting in a total of $50,000 donated to the charity.

Originally, Ninja Theory set a deadline of April 18th, concluding Hellblade’s first week on Xbox One. The title managed to sell 50,000 copies by April 17th, causing Ninja Theory to step up and donate $25,000 to Mental Health America. In its follow-up tweet, the developer reminded people that it still had one day left to achieve its goal of 100,000 copies, which would have resulted in the studio doubling down on its donation.

Despite sales encompassing all regions, Hellblade overshot the deadline by over three months, achieving 100,000 Xbox One sales just yesterday, August 6th, 2018. Ninja Theory remains committed to its original sentiment, however, donating another $25,000 to Mental Health America, bringing its total contribution to $50,000.

Needless to say, fans are in awe of the developer’s support towards mental health, expressing their gratitude throughout the Twitter comments. This is unlikely to be Ninja Theory’s last dabble in charitable efforts, hopefully with the help of its new parent company Microsoft moving forward.

KitGuru Says: It’s rare to see so much compassion coming from developers, but entirely welcome. I can only imagine what Ninja Theory would do if Hellblade managed to sell yet another 50,000 copies on the platform. Have you played Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice?
