The Witcher TV show casts Henry Cavill as Geralt

The Witcher TV series is one step closer to filming. We learned that the series had landed the showrunner behind Daredevil back in December 2017 and the pilot script was submitted at the end of February. The team of writers have been very busy crafting the first season's eight episodes since then and now, we have our first casting announcement. Henry Cavill will be playing Geralt of Rivia.

Lauren S. Hissrich, the showrunner behind Netflix's ‘The Witcher', has been keeping us up to date on the show's progress all year long. Most recently, she tweeted out that the writing team is currently crafting the finale for season 1. Now a few days later, we know that the series' main character, Geralt of Rivia, has been cast. Henry Cavill has now graduated to being the man of silver and steel.

Since the show's inception, the cast has been a mystery to all of us. Now that the actor for Geralt is official, we'll hopefully start to hear more about casting for other important characters.

Currently, The Witcher is set to hit Netflix in 2020. Filming should begin before the end of this year, with a few European shooting locations picked out to stay true to the books.

KitGuru Says: Henry Cavill has discussed his admiration for The Witcher books and games in the past, which is a good first step. What do you guys think of this announcement?
