IFA 2018: Acer launches new Mixed Reality headset

IFA has kicked off today and Acer is the first to unload its latest announcements. At the event this morning, Acer launched its new Windows Mixed Reality headset, known as the ‘OJO 500', switching out the old light blue design for a much sleeker and stealthier look.

Acer's new Mixed Reality headset has a new detachable design, making it easier to switch between soft or hard head straps. It also makes it easier to remove the lenses for cleaning, which is especially important if multiple people are going to pick up and use the headset on a regular basis. The OJO 500 also comes with an integrated audio system that directs sound towards the users ear, removing the need for dedicated headphones.

For maximum viewing comfort, the headset comes with a built in ‘interpupillary distance' (IPD) wheel, so you can adjust the distance of the display to whatever is most comfortable for your eyes. Speaking of the display, this headset packs a 2.89-inch LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, 100 degree wide field of view and 2880×1440 resolution.

Motion controllers are included and the headset utilises ‘inside out' tracking, so there is no need to set up a myriad of sensors, as is the case for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift CV1. The headset connects to a Windows 10 PC with a HDMI 2.0 connector and a USB 3.0 connector.

We'll be seeing this headset hit the US and EMEA markets in November for $399 and €499 respectively.
