The last big Windows 10 feature update of 2018 is on the way. Formerly codenamed ‘Redstone 5', the Windows 10 October 2018 update will be with us in a few weeks time, with Windows Insiders already testing out the final build.
Microsoft has begun simplifying its feature update names this year. Earlier this year we had the ‘Windows 10 April 2018' update, which introduced improvements to security, Edge, and the overall look of Windows, bringing in a new ‘fluent' design scheme.
In the upcoming October feature update, Microsoft will be making improvements for dark theme users by adding support for the Windows file explorer. Beyond that, further improvements will be made to the Edge browser and performance stats will be added to the Xbox Game Bar.
The big focus for Microsoft this time around has been adding support for ARM chipsets, allowing more Windows 10 laptops to launch with Qualcomm processors under the hood. Several of these were shown off at IFA in Berlin this week.
KitGuru says: Every so often, Microsoft will release a buggy update, so I'm hoping for minimal issues with this one when the time comes. We should hear more about its feature upgrades too as we get closer to October.
