Despite its launch just late last week, Insomniac’s Spider-Man has already managed to become this year’s fastest-selling game in the UK. Not only has it dominated this week’s charts, Spider-Man has also established itself as the fastest-selling Marvel-based game to date.
While it’s still too early to talk about how well Spider-Man is performing internationally, GamesIndustry.biz reports that the latest Marvel adventure has edged out God of War as the PlayStation 4’s biggest release of 2018 by selling twice as many copies. Considering God of War was released in April and Spider-Man just three days ago, this is no small feat.
Even more impressive, Spider-Man has overthrown Ubisoft’s Far Cry 5 as this year’s fastest selling game in the United Kingdom, despite the latter being released on multiple platforms. Insomniac’s Spider-Man also managed to become fastest-selling individual format game, topping the record set by Call of Duty: WWII last November.

Lastly, Insomniac’s Spider-Man has established itself as top-dog for Marvel video games, a title previously held by 2013’s LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, despite a sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series following. The next in line to potentially overthrow Spider-Man will be Square Enix’s mysterious Avengers game, which doesn’t have a release date as of yet.
As far as physical sales go, considering these metrics don’t include digital sales, DC Comics still manages to rule the roost with Batman: Arkham Knight remaining the fastest-selling superhero game in the UK. That being said, Spider-Man is at a distinct disadvantage with its singular-platform launch and presumably increased digital sales three years later.
