Trial invites for Google’s Project Stream are now going out

Last week, Google announced that it would be launching trials for ‘Project Stream’, the company’s own game streaming service. To kick things off and garner interest, Project Stream is launching with access to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, streamable in full via the Google Chrome browser. The service was open for testing sign-ups and now, the invites have started going out.

Google has long been rumoured to be interested in the video game market, with a particular interest in cloud streaming. As a company, Google is one of the best equipped to deliver a streaming service of this calibre, although it will be facing competition from the likes of Microsoft, who just announced Project xCloud, in addition to Sony’s PSNow service.

Now that invites for Google’s Project Stream have started going out to those in the US who signed up, we should start seeing first impressions popping up across the web. There is still a big question mark surrounding the viability of cloud gaming, especially after the disaster that was OnLive, but technology is constantly evolving and it looks like more big players in the tech world are jumping on board.

KitGuru Says: It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out, after all, a company like Google should have the infrastructure to support a decent game streaming service. Did any of you sign up for the Project Cloud trial? Have you had a chance to try it out yet?
