Oppo set to release the world’s first smartphone with 10GB of RAM

While there have been some innovations made within the smartphone market, such as in-display fingerprint scanners, facial recognition and the push for bezel-less displays, there is a piqued interest in the increasing amount of RAM held in flagships. While Google’s Pixel 3 range is being slammed for its rumoured 4GB offering, Oppo will release the market’s first handset packed with 10GB of RAM.

Prominent leaker, Ice Universe was first to discover the staggering jump, stating that the Oppo Find X will be the “world's first 10GB RAM smartphone” as the firm plans to release another variant to its established flagship. Of course, the Find X is among the first smartphones reported to have such a generous amount of memory, however it’s difficult to determine whether it will be the market’s first without an official release date.

The original Find X device launched earlier this year with 8GB of RAM and a choice of 128GB or 256GB of storage. GizmoChina has since been able to verify the TENAA listing posted by Ice Universe, however, which will usher in a new 10GB memory + 256GB of storage model. Given the paired image, it’s likely that the new Find X will once again sport a notchless edge-to-edge 6.42-inch AMOLED display at 2340 x 1080 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and a pop-up camera with a 25MP front-facing lens and a 16MP + 20MP rear dual lens.

Rumours have also pegged smartphone manufacturer Vivo to be in the running to release a handset with 10GB, but details surrounding the Xplay7 elude the press at this time. It’s also worth noting that ASUS also had plans to release its ROG Phone with a 10GB offering, but opted for 8GB upon finally launching the device.

KitGuru Says: Many preach about Android optimisation across the variety of smartphone offerings, suggesting that handsets need the extra hardware for performance. Others believe that overtaking many modern PCs is overkill and unnecessary. How do you feel about a smartphone housing 10GB of RAM?
