Red Dead Redemption 2 made $725m at launch, making it the 2nd biggest entertainment launch ever

We already know that Red Dead Redemption 2 dominated the UK physical sales charts over the weekend but it looks like overall global sales were much more impressive. Rockstar's western adventure is now the second biggest entertainment launch of all time, falling just behind Grand Theft Auto V.

In the entertainment world, a launch is classed as sales generated within the first three days. When compared to GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 takes the number two spot in the record list, generating $725m. However, GTA V launched on a Tuesday, while Red Dead Redemption 2 had a weekend launch. If you look at the records for the biggest weekend game launch of all time, Red Dead Redemption 2 takes the number one spot.

Those aren't the only records that Rockstar is breaking this week. Red Dead Redemption 2 is also boasts the highest pre-order count, highest day-one sales and highest first three-day sales of any game on the PlayStation Network. We don't know about Xbox Live, but it is hard to imagine that the situation wouldn't be similar.

Be sure to check out our gameplay video for Red Dead Redemption 2, showing off the first three hours of the game.

KitGuru Says: Rockstar continues to print money with its game launches. Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't quite match GTA V's $1 billion launch but it comes closer than anything else in the entertainment world. Have any of you picked up Red Dead Redemption 2 yet? How are you finding it?
