Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s physical sales are down compared to Origins

Ubisoft has had a great year so far with the launch of Far Cry 5 but it looks like its big end of year release, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, could be struggling at retail. While Far Cry 5 easily took the top spot on UK retail charts, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s physical sales are down compared to Origins.

A large part of this will be the fact that Odyssey launched in close proximity to EA’s FIFA 19, which is always a sure hit in the physical sales charts. However, as GI.biz reports, Odyssey’s physical sales are lower overall compared to Assassin’s Creed Origins’ first weekend on the market.

Not only do we have to take the shift towards digital over physical sales into account here, but we also need to pay attention to the fact that Odyssey’s more expensive digital editions also came with early access to the full game. In addition, the latest Assassin’s Creed came out much earlier than Origins, leaving more time before the big holiday sales rush.

The initial UK sales chart sales might show lower performance compared to Origins, but we’ll need to wait for Ubisoft to unveil full sales figures to really get the full picture.

KitGuru Says: I haven’t had a chance to pick up Odyssey yet but I’ve heard plenty of good things. Did any of you try it out over the weekend? How are you finding it so far?
