As many of you now know, I'm the rather new addition to Team KitGuru and it'll be my job to provide you lot with some Gameplay from a variety of games! These videos wont just include the AAA titles that are plastered everywhere currently, but I do plan to include some INDIE games in the mix too.
So far, being apart of Team KitGuru I've managed to do two, 1 hour+ gameplay videos of Square Enix's, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.. and I can honestly say that I went in with the mindset that I wasn't going to enjoy it to the extent of wanting to play more than I have, BUT, I really did thoroughly enjoy what I managed to play! So much that I never really wanted to end the videos. I just wanted to keep on going for you guys, progressing through the story and finding out what happens next!
From what I have seen so far, the game is very cutscene heavy. I know this can be a massive put off to a lot of gamers and Shadow of the Tomb Raider surely does fall under this category.
I've always been a lover of games that include Cutscenes myself, I like having the option to sit back and take a breather from the mass carnage that I've caused.. (tehe). I feel the cutscenes tell more of the story in a way that if the developers were just to whack a story within all the dialogue, whilst you are still progressing through areas and looting til your hearts content… It wouldn't have the same grip on you like majority of the ‘story' games do.
Another point that I was really interested in, that I'm sure a lot of Tomb Raider fans would agree is the Puzzle aspect of the game. So, as you are running through, you will hit an area that will require you to stop and actually think about how to get out of it and progress.
Unfortunately, I didn't get too much of a in depth review on the combat system of the game, as I only really encountered it around the beginning. However, from what I did actually see was.. You had a variety of weapons; Bow, Assault Rifle, Pistol and Grenades.. and the ability to avoid enemies by sneaking and silently killing them. OR If you are like me, a bull in a china shop. Running around guns blazing, alerting all of them!
After the 2 hours I've played there wasn't that much that I disliked about the game, I feel it pulled me in quite quickly.
I guess one of the things that did niggle me a little, was the fact that you didn't actually discover a ‘base camp' until about an hour and a half through the game.. I wanted to explore the skills table and change my outfits etc a lot earlier than able to. This isn't a major thing, as I understand the reasoning for it being so late, as it opens you up into that ‘open world' feel just after you discover your first one. However, maybe it would've been good to have the skills section through the menu? and not necessarily through the base camp only.
Either way I had a lot of fun playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider and if this is the type of game that appeals to you! I would go for it. It RRPs, at around £39.99+ Have a nosy and get engrossed.
Thanks guys, I look forward to providing you guys with a lot more Gameplay Videos in the future!
