BioWare shows off new Anthem footage at Paris Games Week

Paris Games Week kicked off last Friday and it looks like BioWare made a surprise appearance, taking the opportunity to show off Anthem once again. We already know that Anthem isn't a typical BioWare game, and most of what has been shown at events so far has been heavily scripted. However, during the Paris Games Week stream over the weekend, 30 minutes of pure gameplay were shown, giving us a proper look at the first mission and some of the character's ultimate abilities.

We don't know what system the game was running on but the frame rate is a lot lower than what we have seen during E3. The game appears to be running at less than 30 frames per second but you still get a good idea of what the game plays like and how it looks, albeit on low graphics settings. Obviously, Anthem is still in alpha, so there is plenty of time left for BioWare to optimise the game.

During the opening mission, a team of four Javelins set off to rescue someone lost in the wilderness. The team flies around, dropping in on different camps and tracking clues as they go. It all leads up to a showdown with a world boss, wielding a shield and a flame thrower.

The ultimate abilities for the Storm Javelin and the Interceptor Javelin are shown. The storm ability creates a field of lightning in a small area, meanwhile the Interceptor ability equips dual-blades, allowing the Javelin to warp from enemy to enemy, cutting them down as they go.

KitGuru Says: I'm still unsure on Anthem, especially now that I've come to grips with the fact that I don't enjoy Destiny anymore. Hopefully BioWare will be able to freshen things up for this genre but I don't think any of us will know for sure until we can play a decent chunk of the game ourselves.
