Call of Duty has had a stranglehold on the casual multiplayer FPS market ever since Battlefield’s popularity fell to the wayside. One possible COD-killer is the highly-praised xDefiant from Ubisoft. Having been delayed multiple times over the course of its development (including its most-recent surprise last minute push back), an insider has now revealed the game’s internal struggles.
As reported by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft’s xDefiant has been suffering with success somewhat, as according to the publication “the game's shortcomings stem from the executive's pursuit of trying to copy Call of Duty, rather than building their own game.”
Despite not being out yet, xDefiant has had many playtests in recent months, with fan feedback being highly positive and suggesting that the new series could dethrone Call of Duty’s seemingly endless reign.
With that possibility in sight, it seems as though xDefiant has had its scope both widened and altered – leading to “dozens of internal targets in the past couple of years” being missed.
While seemingly a tough development overall, hopefully the team at Ubisoft are able to get xDefiant across the finish line.
