Nintendo has no plans for Gamescom this year

Last year following Gamescom, it was reported that Nintendo held private meetings to discuss its next-gen console plans. This year, Nintendo is opting to skip the event, confirming that it has no plans to attend.

For years now, Gamescom has been the biggest gaming convention in the world, and it has only grown bigger in recent years, with Geoff Keighley now hosting the event's annual game announcement showcase. With E3 now officially scrapped for good too, there will be more eyes on Gamescom each year.

Unfortunately, Nintendo won't be at the event this year. Speaking with German site Games Wirtschaft, and later confirmed to Eurogamer, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that “after careful consideration”, it won't be taking part this year.

This means we won't be getting any first-party Nintendo news at the event, although third-party Switch titles will likely still be revealed. This also means that we shouldn't expect any official Switch 2 news around that time. Currently, Nintendo is rumoured to be gearing up for an early 2025 launch for its next-gen console.

KitGuru Says: Chances are, we will still get a summer Nintendo Direct, as well as a Fall season stream for upcoming Switch game announcements to close out the year. If Nintendo wants to announce its next console, it can do so on its own, just as it did with the Nintendo Switch.
