Former Naughty Dog director’s new game takes us back to the early days of Marvel

Since the closure of Visceral Studios and the cancellation of Star Wars project ‘Ragtag', former Naughty Dog director and writer, Amy Hennig, has been at Skydance Media bringing a new action-adventure game to life. We've known for a while that this would be a Marvel project, but the official announcement still caught us by surprise.

Skydance's Marvel game is now known as Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, taking players back to the origins of characters like Captain America, set during the second world war, with parts of the game taking place in Paris.

Some of the confirmed voice cast members include:

  • Khary Payton as Azzuri / Black Panther
  • Drew Moerlein as Steve Rogers / Captain America
  • Marque Richardson as Gabriel Jones
  • Megalyn Echikunwoke as Nanali
  • Joel Johnstone as Howard Stark

The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and Epic's new Meta Human animator for more realistic facial expressions. This same technology is being used by Ninja Theory for Hellblade 2, which has largely impressed with its visuals thus far.

The game unfortunately does not have an official release date just yet but it is due to arrive sometime in 2025.

KitGuru Says: This looks a lot more interesting than I was expecting. Many Marvel games and films currently take place in the modern day, so we rarely get to go all the way back to the 1940s to explore Captain America's start as the world's first ‘Super Soldier'.
