PNY Prevail Pro Mobile Workstation Review (Nvidia Quadro P4000)

Rating: 8.0.

PNY is best known as NVIDIA's exclusive partner for its dominant Quadro professional graphics cards. But the company does make other things, and one of those is workstation notebooks – incorporating Quadro graphics, of course. The range is called the Prevail Pro, and we took a look at the version with mobile Quadro P4000 graphics. The base version uses the P3000.

The Prevail Pro isn't one of the huge 17in workstation laptops based around a giant Clevo chassis like the MSI WT73VR 7RM. It's still a Clevo design, but in  a more manageable 15.6in form factor, and weighs 2.2kg so is more than just portable in name only. You could carry it around with you, and PNY claims a useful 300-minute battery life, although this is when using the Intel HD 630 graphics built into the CPU, rather than the discrete P4000 accelerator.

The processor in question is a fairly potent Intel Core i7-7700HQ, which is a quad-core model running at a nominal 2.8GHz. This has been partnered with a very healthy 32GB of 2,400MHz DDR4 SDRAM. You also get a high-resolution UHD (3,840 x 2,160) screen. So your on-the-road computing experience shouldn't be far behind a desktop.

Even the storage provision is desktop-class, with a 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD for operating system and apps and 2TB 2.5in SATA hard disk for general data. All this does come at a price, however, with the total for this specification being a princely sum of nearly £3,600 inc VAT. Nevertheless, if you need desktop-like performance in a package that you really can carry around and use on the move, this could be a price worth paying.
