Samsung’s upcoming self-developed 7nm Exynos 9820 is confidently codenamed “Cheetah”

Although Samsung’s Galaxy S10 isn’t due to arrive until early next year, rumours are running rampant suggesting that there will be three separate devices. It’s believed that this will include at least one 5G-supported smartphone, while some if not all will house firm’s brand new Exynos 9820, confidently codenamed “Cheetah.”

While the South Korean firm has yet to confirm any speculation surrounding its upcoming devices, sources spoke with Bloomberg to confirm that the Galaxy S10 and 10 Plus will sport bezel-less curved OLED screens, while a third cheaper option will retain the traditional flat design. Each device is expected to pack a triple rear-camera setup, keeping up with the ever-increasing flagship lens count.

The screen is believed to be highly important, with the company implementing its ultrasonic fingerprint scanner beneath the display. Current under-screen fingerprint scanners centre the sensor in one spot, while Samsung’s in-display sensor is said to be more accurate and available anywhere under the display.

Samsung’s 5G capability will be powered by its new proprietary 7nm Exynos 9820 AI chip, recently revealed to be codenamed Cheetah by serial leaker Ice Universe. Alongside camera-enhancing AI systems, naming the chip after the fastest land animal certainly shows that Samsung is chasing after Huawei’s top-spot, potentially dethroning the recently released Kirin 980.

It’s not certain whether this new chip, and therefore 5G capability, will be available across all three reported models, however Samsung is reportedly in talks with Verizon to get its services up and running in the United States. Other countries have yet to be confirmed, but are sure to prepare ahead of release.
