At the moment, the US is embroiled in a trade-war with China, with new tariffs set to come into play. This is going to have a knock-on effect for the tech industry, as these tariffs will drive up prices for companies doing business with manufacturers in China. We are starting to see this take shape, as Seasonic has increased the US MSRP for its power supplies.
All Seasonic power supplies manufactured in China and destined for the US market will see a price increase. For most units, the increase is around $10 but it does vary depending on the model. You can see the full price list change in the chart below:
These prices will come into effect on the 1st of December 2018. Seasonic is announcing its price changes ahead of time in order to be transparent. The company has also told us that “the situation is dynamic and necessary adjustments will be made accordingly”, so there could be more changes in the future depending on what happens next.
KitGuru Says: This isn't exactly the most positive news but its good to see Seasonic being transparent. We'll likely see many other companies begin to make pricing changes too as these US trade tariffs come into play.
