Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode begins rolling out this week

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been doing incredibly well over the last few weeks but the lengthy, single-player story mode is just one half of the game. Starting from today, Rockstar will begin rolling out Red Dead Online, the multiplayer mode that will carry the game for years to come, similar to GTA Online.

Rockstar announced last night that Red Dead Online will enter public beta at 1:30pm GMT today for anyone who purchased the Ultimate Edition of the game. It will then roll out to anyone who played the game on launch day tomorrow. Finally, on Thursday, Red Dead Online will be open to anyone who played the game on the 27th and 29th of October. Finally, on Friday, Red Dead Online will open up to all owners of the game.

In Red Dead Online, players will be able to create their own character, select certain abilities and then explore the entire world. Essentially everything that is in the single-player mode can also be found in Red Dead Online, with the exception of the single-player missions. So you'll be able to hunt, fish, run into wandering NPCs in the wild etc. During the beta, you'll have the option to form a group with up to seven other players, set up your own camp, take on missions, engage in PvP and more.

We don't know how long Red Dead Online will remain in beta for but once everything is stable, we should hopefully start to hear about future multiplayer content updates.

KitGuru Says: GTA Online ended up being a huge success, so it will be interesting to see how that carries over to Red Dead Redemption 2. Have any of you been playing the game over the last month? Will you be trying out the online mode this week?
