Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive PC launch tipped off via Achievements leak

Update: At this point, Sunset Overdrive for PC is all but announced. We've had numerous leaks from ratings boards, the Steam Database and now, Microsoft's own Xbox Live API has seemingly revealed the game ahead of an official announcement.

The website ‘TrueAchievements‘ was recently updated with a listing for Sunset Overdrive PC, listing off every achievement in the game. These websites pull in achievement details from Xbox Live and it would seem that someone on Microsoft's end recently updated the achievements database with a listing specifically for Sunset Overdrive on Windows 10.

This means that we'll likely be seeing Sunset Overdrive on the Windows Store in addition to Steam. We don't know if it will end up being ‘Play Anywhere' for the Windows version but given that most other Microsoft exclusives are at this point, it would be odd to have Sunset Overdrive be the odd one out.

Original Story: Prior to Microsoft's push to bring more exclusive games to PC, there was talk of Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive coming to Windows. Of course, nothing ever came of it but evidence has been mounting up over the last few weeks. Not only have we seen multiple administrations rate the game for a PC release, but Sunset Overdrive has now appeared on the Steam database.

Back in May, it was discovered that a PC version of Sunset Overdrive was submitted to the Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee. The game was clearly listed as ‘Sunset Overdrive PC' and the submission passed through swiftly. Then in October, the ESRB issued its own rating for Sunset Overdrive on PC, giving it an M/Mature rating for blood, gore, drug/sexual references and violence.

Now, an entry for Sunset Overdrive has appeared on the Steam Database. Currently, it is listed as “SteamDB Unknown App 847370′ but the Sunset Overdrive logo is clearly visible, which gives things away. Microsoft typically releases its exclusives for the Windows Store with Play Anywhere functionality. However, several ‘second-party' exclusives have made it to Steam, including ReCore, Quantum Break, Super Lucky's Tale, Ori and the Blind Forest etc. Since Sunset Overdrive was developed by Insomniac, Microsoft might be more lenient and put the game on Steam in addition to the Windows Store.

However, it should be noted that this wouldn't be the first time that a SteamDB entry has been made for a game not intended to release on the platform. Destiny 1 was also listed on SteamDB before the launch of Destiny 2.

Microsoft has an event coming up later this week, during which we are expecting to see a few announcements. We already know that Microsoft plans to bring Xbox Game Pass to PC natively, so this could end up being one of the first games to appear. I'm still holding out hope for the Master Chief Collection though.

KitGuru Says: I really enjoyed the short amount of time I spent playing Sunset Overdrive, but for me, a PC is always going to be the best place to play games. If this does come to PC, then I'd certainly like to revisit it. Did many of you play Sunset Overdrive when it came out? Would you play it if it came to PC?
