Final Fantasy XV adds support for Nvidia DLSS on RTX GPUs

Over the last few months, we've had a rather big list of games set to support Nvidia's new RTX 20-series features, including DLSS and real-time ray-tracing. One of the flagship titles for DLSS has been Final Fantasy XV, support for the technology has been available in benchmark form for a while now, but RTX owners can finally switch the option on for themselves in the main game.

As part of Nvidia's latest GeForce driver release, DLSS support has been added for Final Fantasy XV. For those who don't know much about DLSS, here is a brief explainer: DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling and utilises the new AI cores onboard the Turing chip. The easiest way to think about it is AI-assisted anti-aliasing, using deep learning to predict adjustments to each frame. By moving to this method, more of the GPU can be used elsewhere, thus improving frame rates.

DLSS is currently in beta for Final Fantasy XV but it should enable RTX 2080Ti owners to run the game above 60 frames per second at 4K with high graphics settings. Since DLSS relies on machine learning to function, Nvidia is seeking feedback from active users in order to continue improving it, both in terms of image quality and frame rate.

If you happen to own an RTX graphics card and want to enable DLSS, all you need to do is launch Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition, go to the options menu, bump the resolution up to 3840×2160 and then enable DLSS under the anti-aliasing settings option.

KitGuru Says: Ray-tracing and DLSS now have public support in major triple A games. Right now, ray-tracing is available in Battlefield V, meanwhile DLSS has finally launched for Final Fantasy XV. There are still a lot of other games promising to add support for these features, so RTX owners will be able to put those fancy RT and Tensor cores to good use.
