Jack Black creates a YouTube channel devoted to gaming

After creating his own comedy rock band and starring in a string of movies, it’s only natural that Jack Black would want to create his very own YouTube channel, Jablinski Games. Dedicated to “games, food, and life” for the time being, Black and his son are aiming to become more popular than both Ninja and PewDiePie.

Black is no stranger to the video game world, having his likeness and voice stylings in Double Fine’s Brutal Legend (2009) and making a special appearance with his band Tenacious D and Dave Grohl during Blizzard’s annual BlizzCon 2010. Last year’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which starred Black, also brought the beloved film into the modern era by replacing the iconic board game with a video game instead.

Despite this experience, Black revealed in a comment on his introductory video that his son is in control of the channel, acting as a creative director, editor and producer. While he didn’t clarify which of his two sons was calling the shots, it is likely to be 12-year-old Samuel Black as the oldest child. This does help explain some of the memes included, such as PewDiePie’s “But Can You Do This” and Google Search’s botched “Who Created Kirby?” in the channel’s header image.

Online platforms such as YouTube and Twitch have garnered a lot of attention from film and music artists as of late, with Drake most notably joining then feuding with Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins – Twitch’s biggest star. Will Smith also introduced YouTube’s controversial Rewind segment to cap off 2018.

In less than a single week, Jablinski Games has attracted over 1 million subscriptions and nearly 3.4 million views at the time of writing, showing a lot of potential for the retro-styled channel. Another video is likely to land today, with uploads promised every Friday.

KitGuru Says: Jack Black isn’t exactly struggling for relevancy, so this is likely something for him and his son to bond over while entertaining millions. While I don’t know what to expect, I am intrigued and can’t wait to see more from the duo. Do you think Jablinski Games has the potential to take over Ninja and PewDiePie?
