The Game Awards 2018 is missing some big names, including CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077

While there was a time without information surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red’s consistent marketing throughout the year has left fans clamouring for more. Sadly, those looking towards The Game Awards 2018 will be disappointed to find out that the developer has no intention of showcasing its upcoming sci-fi RPG.

Speaking with investors last week, CD Projekt Red revealed that it was aiming for a finish as refined as Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077. This is a task that is no small feat, as Rockstar’s huge team took over 8 years to produce the sequel. To put this in perspective, pre-production for the dystopian sci-fi is known to have begun at the conclusion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s DLC in 2016.

From what we’ve seen so far, CD Projekt Red has already come a long way having a large portion of its world built. This lent credit to Turkish publisher Bilkom’s claims that Cyberpunk 2077 was set to debut as early as next year, however the lack of appearance during The Game Awards could mean that the game needs a little more time in the oven.

“We're looking forward to seeing all the reveals and announcements during this year's @thegameawards, however we're not going to be showing anything there ourselves,” reveals CD Projekt Red community lead Marcin Momot on Twitter. “We’ll share more details about @cyberpunkgame when we’re ready.”

CD Projekt Red isn’t the only developer that will be absent from the event, as Batman: Arkham studio Rocksteady denies that it will make an appearance. Game Director and co-founder Sefton Hill broke the bad news, also dispelling rumours that the firm’s next game would be Superman. Of course, this could all be a ruse similar to Arkham Knight’s marketing, but purposefully mentioning the DC Comics character instead of abstaining makes this unlikely.

The Game Awards 2018 takes place at the end of this week, on Thursday 6 December at 5:30pm PT/8:30pm ET. This translates to Friday 7 December for those in the UK and Australia, at 1:30am and 12:30pm respectively.

KitGuru Says: It’s sad that these big studios won’t be making an appearance, but I would personally rather each take their time to deliver an experience memorable for all the right reasons. What would you like to see at The Game Awards 2018?
