Samsung unveils brand new 5120×1440 49-inch gaming monitor

CES is coming up in just a few days time but it looks like Samsung wants to get a jump on the announcements. This week, Samsung unveiled its next 32:9 display, the CRG9, offering a big resolution upgrade over the previous generation CHG90.

The CHG90 is Samsung's 49-inch super-wide display, complete with high refresh rate, FreeSync support and a 3840×1080 resolution, offering the experience of two 27-inch 1080p monitors in a single display. Not everyone wants to go back to 1080p at this point, so plenty of people held off for a higher resolution version, which is now arriving this year. Samsung's upgraded CRG9 is a 49-inch 32:9 display, bumping the resolution up to 5120×1440, so you'll get the benefit of two 27-inch 1440p monitors stitched together instead.

The CRG9 comes with other upgrades too, including a 120Hz refresh rate, FreeSync 2 support, a 1ms response time and finally, HDR with a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. We don't have details on pricing or a release date yet, but we should learn more during CES next week.

KitGuru Says: With CES on the horizon, I'm sure this won't be the only new display we see from Samsung. Are any of you looking to upgrade your monitor this year?
