Obsidian’s next RPG is The Outer Worlds, first trailer released

Just as promised, Obsidian took to the stage at The Game Awards this evening to debut its latest RPG- The Outer Worlds. Published by Take-Two's ‘Private Division', The Outer Worlds is set to be a colourful, Sci-Fi RPG from the Fallout New Vegas team, in addition to some of the people behind the original Fallout.

The game is set on a colonised planet far out in the galaxy. In this area of space, corporations have taken control and rule over various planets. Your character awakens from hibernation, from there, you'll explore the colony, get to know the settlers, resolve conflicts and try to overcome the various threats coming your way.

As you would expect from Obsidian, this is a single-player RPG with plenty of freedom. The trailer itself teases the different choices you can make, which will impact the story as you go along. You'll be in first-person for the most part, but other in-game systems haven't been shown yet, so we don't know how levelling up works, or how player stats will impact skills.

The Outer Worlds will be releasing in 2019, so we'll be seeing much more of this game over the course of next year. Despite Obsidian recently becoming a Microsoft first-party studio, this game will continue to be published by Take-Two's Private Division and will be a multi-platform release for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

KitGuru Says: The Outer Worlds isn't quite what I expected, but the humour hooked me in and the story sounds darker than the colourful aesthetic would have us believe. Obsidian has always been a great RPG studio, so I have confidence in this one. What do you guys think of Obsidian's Outer Worlds trailer? Will you be getting this when it launches next year?
