Sony takes LittleBigPlanet 3 servers offline for good following DDOS attacks

Though once a staple in the PlayStation’s library, LittleBigPlanet has not had a new entry since 2014’s LBP3. Unfortunately, the PS4 servers for the title were taken offline temporarily back in January due to continuous DDOS attacks towards the game. Sadly, the issue has not been resolved, with Sony now choosing to officially take LittleBigPlanet offline for good.

Making the announcement via its support website, Sony revealed that the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 on PS4 wouldn’t be coming back after all, saying: “Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers for PS4 being taken offline temporarily in January 2024, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely.”

Explaining what this means exactly, they continued: “All online services including access to other players' creations for LittleBigPlanet 3 are no longer available. User generated content (UGC) stored locally on your PS4 will remain available. Any new UGC you create can be played on your PS4 but not shared. Offline features such as the campaign will remain playable.”

Considering the fact that LittleBigPlanet’s biggest USP was its online capabilities – letting you download and play a near-infinite number of creative and unique user created levels – this announcement is disappointing indeed. Hopefully a 4th entry will eventually come to fruition.
