Kingdom Hearts is finally coming to Steam

Back in 2021, Square Enix announced that it would be bringing the entire Kingdom Hearts series to PC for the first time. This exciting news was somewhat hampered by the revelation that the games would be exclusively available via the Epic Games Store and would not be coming to Steam. Now a few years on, Kingdom Hearts is finally coming to Steam. 

As part of its earnings call earlier this month, Square Enix made it clear that it would be refocusing on multiplatform releases moving forward, moving away from select platform exclusives. We're already starting to see changes falling into place, with the Kingdom Hearts games now launching on Steam. Fans won't have to wait long either, as the series will be available on Valve's popular PC gaming platform starting on the 13th of June.

The Kingdom Hearts series is a bit of a daunting one to jump into for newcomers, in no small part thanks to the number of spin-offs, prequels and various tie-ins. If you are looking to play the entire series, you'll need to pick up three games – Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts 3, complete with its Re Mind story DLC.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix includes remasters of the original two games, as well as spin-offs like Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep and Re:Coded. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue includes Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage, and Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover.

Kingdom Hearts is now available to play on all major platforms, including PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Nintendo Switch owners can also access the games, but only in cloud form, meaning they are streamed, rather than natively installed on the console.
