Voice actor Cam Clarke celebrated the 20th anniversary of Metal Gear Solid back in October, by reviving Liquid Snake for a special Halloween poem. With Christmas just around the corner, Clarke continued his newfound holiday tradition by bringing David Hayter’s Solid Snake along for the ride, reading “The Night Before Christmas” with a unique Metal Gear twist.
Hayter’s iconic gravelled voice has been missing since 2010, with Hideo Kojima unceremoniously replacing him with Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid V. The Snake saga also came to a similar bitter end since the release of The Phantom Pain in 2015, after mounting tension saw Kojima ousted from Konami.
The Night Before Metal Gear sees both Snakes back in action, bringing with them the signature melodrama that the series is known for. The six minutes of nostalgia trudges through Metal Gear’s history, making mention of Skull Face and the Cobra Unit before diving into the battle between the Twin Snakes.
The project was conceived by Clarke late in November, with Hayter supposedly crafting the parody within 20 minutes. We also have reason to believe that he procured the pen on-site.
KitGuru Says: Fortunately, I was lucky enough to receive a greeting from Hayter during his time at Manchester Comic Con 2017, meaning it hasn’t been too long of a wait for me to see the legend back in action. Still, this timeless reading can be enjoyed time and time again. Have you missed Hayter and Clarke’s presence in Metal Gear Solid?
