Titanfall 2 certainly had a rough launch, with its commercial downfall attributed to the poor release schedule sandwiching it between Call of Duty and Battlefield. Despite this, the series has seemingly escaped outright cancellation from its trigger happy publisher, with developer Respawn Entertainment still hiring people for a Titanfall project.
Rumours for Titanfall 3 have been floating around throughout the year, with job listings appearing as far back as last year. Respawn CEO Vince Zampella has previously revealed that the team would be happy to take on another project, however the official status of a third mainline entry remains unconfirmed at this time.
Titanfall 2 offered all of its post-launch downloadable content (DLC) for free, with its final one, Postcards from the Frontier, landing in August 2017. Unless Respawn is planning to revive the game with a big update, multiple jobs still attributed to the Titanfall series suggest that another entry is in the works.
The most recent listing is searching for a Senior Technical Animator to work in Titanfall’s dedicated development team, posted just last week on December 15. Posts looking for a Build & Release Manager, AI Software Engineer, VFX Artist, Environmental Artist and more have cropped up in the last couple of months alone. The amount of ground covered in the hiring process does seem to suggest that the team is working on something bigger than DLC.
Elsewhere, Respawn has announced that it is working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, an action-adventure game expected to arrive late in 2019, and an unannounced virtual reality project that supposedly isn’t related to its previous works. Neither Respawn nor EA have commented on the recent rumblings, hopefully set to reveal more information in the new year.
KitGuru Says: Potentially rising from the flames of a less-than-stellar launch is no small feat for any game, let alone one under EA’s control. Hopefully the publisher will play it smart, as Titanfall 2 improved on almost every complaint fans had about the first entry. Would you like to see a Titanfall 3?
