Half-Life 2: Episodes and Portal writer returns to Valve

Over the course of 2016/2017, Valve began to lose some of its most notable writers, with the folks behind the stories for Portal, Half-Life and Left 4 Dead all departing. Since then, Valve has turned things around, with full games in the works once again. With that in mind, it seems notable that Erik Wolpaw has returned to the studio.

Wolpaw left Valve back in 2017 and spent some time working at Double Fine instead. Previously, he had worked on the Half-Life 2 episodes, in addition to Portal 1 and 2 for Valve. It appears that Wolpaw has been back at Valve for a few months too, as his name appears in the credits for Artifact, the Dota 2 card game that released in November.

According to Valve News Network, Wolpaw is in fact back at Valve once again, although we don't know what he is working on just yet. Recently, there have been a lot of rumours surrounding a new Half-Life game built for VR, in addition to a new Portal game, Wolpaw has worked on both franchises, so it could go either way.

Hopefully we'll learn more about Valve's next game later in 2019.

KitGuru Says: In 2017, Valve confirmed that new games were coming and in 2018, Valve finally shipped a brand new game. Hopefully that momentum carries over into this year, as many of us would like to see a return to form for the studio.
