In-game photo modes have seen a boom in popularity as of late, allowing players to capture the Nordic landscapes in God of War (2018), or satiate J. Jonah Jameson’s obsession by capturing Insomniac’s Spider-Man against the cityscape. Metro Exodus will be one of the latest games to include the feature, emphasising on the bleak, yet beautiful post-apocalyptic wasteland of the former Russian Federation.
Although many games have depicted barren wastelands devastated by nuclear war, developer 4A has a particular design that is often striking beyond the desolation. Although Metro Exodus is still a month away, there’s no reason to believe the sequel will differ to its predecessors, especially as player character Artyom will be exploring even more of Russia beyond the Metro in Moscow.
Fortunately, 4A Games has confirmed that players will be able to document their journey with a Photo Mode, “from snapping your deadliest encounters to marvelling at the world beyond the Metro.” This will undoubtedly blend in with the social features baked into PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam, allowing users to share their adventure on social media.
Calling all video game photographers – you can document your journey in #MetroExodus from day one with Photo Mode!

The PC version will also be bolstered by Nvidia's proprietary Ansel screen capture technology, provided that owners have a graphics card that supports it. This will allow for customisation and editing, including filters, greater resolutions and even 360-degree capture.
“Photo Mode has been one of the most requested features from the Metro community,” executive producer Jon Bloch said. “They’re relatively rare in first person shooters, but the team have been determined to make it work and give Metro fans the opportunity to capture their own stories from the Russian wastelands.”
4A Games will be announcing more information about Metro Exodus today, ahead of its February 15th release date.
KitGuru Says: Story driven games often keep me so immersed that I forget to use photo modes, but it’s always a great option to have. I’ve always loved seeing other people’s snaps, which ultimately drove me into getting God of War (2018) despite my disinterest in the series as a whole. How do you feel about photo modes? Are you excited for Metro Exodus?
